Iβm Xiao Wang, a software engineer with a strong foundation in bioinformatics and computational biology, holding a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with two research labs on data-driven biology projects, which shaped my direction for graduate research.
I earned my Master of Science in Bioinformatics and Computational Biomedicine from Oregon Health & Science University β a unique campus on top of a mountain in Portland, Oregon, closely connected to the hospital. My internship involved deep-learning analysis of histopathology images combined with gene-mutation datasets, giving me first-hand experience in applying AI to medical research.
After graduation, I returned to Toronto and joined Quartic.ai as a Research Software Engineer, developing software that optimized operations for global manufacturers. My work focused on frontend development, API integration, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver production-ready MVPs. With my biomedical background, I also provided domain insight to help the team align technology with client needs.
In early 2024, as the company went through acquisitions and management changes, I faced a turning pointβwhether to move into management or specialize further in tech. I decided to take some time for professional and personal development by studying Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, gaining hands-on exposure to precision engineering and safety-critical systems. This experience broadened my understanding of how technology integrates with real-world operations and strengthened my appreciation for reliability and detail in engineering design.
As my aviation studies near completion, Iβm ready to return to the tech field with a fresh perspective and a wider understanding of how software connects to the physical world. My goal is to continue building meaningful, technically robust products that combine depth, usability, and practical impact.
